Behaviour Support

Positive change through evidence-based practice

Evidence-based positive behaviour support to improve quality of life, reduce restrictive practices, and support participants to thrive.

Overview

What is Behaviour Support?

Who we support

  • Participants with behaviours of concern that impact their quality of life
  • People where restrictive practices are currently in use
  • Participants with autism, intellectual disability, or acquired brain injury
  • Families and support teams needing guidance and training

KAAMI's Behaviour Support Practitioners develop individualised Behaviour Support Plans that address the underlying causes of behaviours of concern. We take a trauma-informed, rights-based approach — always working to reduce and eliminate restrictive practices while improving quality of life for participants and the people who support them.

What We Offer

How we deliver Behaviour Support

  • Functional Behaviour Assessment

Comprehensive assessment to understand the function and triggers of behaviours of concern, informing an effective support plan.

  • Behaviour Support Plans

Individualised, NDIS-compliant plans that are practical, evidence-based, and developed in partnership with participants and families.

  • Restrictive Practice Reduction

Systematic reduction and elimination of restrictive practices, with full compliance with NDIS Quality and Safeguards requirements.

  • Stakeholder Training

Training and coaching for support workers, families, and carers to implement strategies consistently and confidently.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Still have questions?

Our team is happy to answer any questions about Behaviour Support and how it can support you or your participant.

  • A Behaviour Support Practitioner is a qualified professional registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission to develop Behaviour Support Plans. KAAMI practitioners hold relevant qualifications in psychology, social work, or behaviour analysis.

  • Restrictive practices are any interventions that restrict a person's rights or freedom of movement — including physical restraint, chemical restraint, mechanical restraint, seclusion, and environmental restraint. The NDIS requires all restrictive practices to be authorised and reduced over time.

  • An interim plan can typically be developed within 1–2 weeks of referral. A comprehensive plan, following a full functional behaviour assessment, usually takes 4–8 weeks depending on complexity and stakeholder availability.
